To help you get started on your plans and legacy, you can use FreeWill, an online tool that guides you through the process of creating your will or trust. It’s easy to use, accessible online, and can be completed in 20 minutes. You can use this resource on its own, or use it to document your wishes before finalizing your plans with an attorney.

How you can include AHA in your estate plans

With guidance from your advisor, you can use language in your will specifying that a gift be made in one of several ways:

• Specific amount: “I give, devise and bequeath to the Academy of Holy Angels … $________.”
• Percentage of your estate: “I give … ___% of the residue of my estate to the Academy of Holy Angels.”
• Residue of your estate: “All the rest, residue and remainder of my estate … I give, devise and bequeath to the Academy of Holy Angels.”
• Specific asset: You might donate a retirement account, investment, real property, or other asset. (If the asset is outside the will’s language—such as a retirement account—it requires a beneficiary designation.)

How do I become a member?

Becoming a member of the AHA Legacy Society is simple. Once you have made your plans, please inform us in writing and submit one of the following:

• A completed, signed Letter of Intent/Confirmation form
• A copy of the relevant provisions in your will or trust
• A copy of the beneficiary designation naming AHA on a life-insurance policy, retirement account, or similar vehicle
• A letter from your attorney or advisor confirming your inclusion of AHA in your estate or legacy plans

Make a Meaningful Gift Through Your IRA

An IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) lets you support Academy of Holy Angels while reducing your taxable income.

If you’re 70½ or older, you can give up to $100,000 directly from your IRA to AHA to support scholarships, academic programs, or any area you choose. While QCDs aren’t tax-deductible, the distribution is not taxed and can lower your taxable income, even if you don’t itemize.

1. Contact Your IRA Administrator

You may include instructions for how you want your gift used. If your IRA offers check-writing, you can use it to make your QCD.

2. Keep Your Records

AHA will send an acknowledgment for your tax files. The distributed amount is excluded from your taxable income.

• You must be 70½ or older at the time of the gift
• Funds must go directly from your IRA to AHA
• Only IRAs qualify (401(k)/403(b) funds may be rolled over to an IRA first)

Name AHA as an IRA Beneficiary

You can also support future generations by naming AHA as a beneficiary of your IRA. This provides a 100% charitable deduction, avoids income taxes on retirement assets, and creates a lasting legacy.
