All-American Troy Bell Returns to AHA as Head Boys Basketball Coach

Academy of Holy Angels (AHA) is excited to announce the hiring of Troy Bell to lead the Stars boys basketball program as its new varsity head coach. Bell, a 1999 alumnus, attended Academy of Holy Angels from 1995 to 1999. He remains AHA's all-time leading scorer, with over 2,000 points, and his retired Stars jersey hangs in the school's lobby. Bell ranked as the fourth all-time high school scoring leader in the state of Minnesota.

After graduation, Bell attended Boston College (BC), where he played for the Eagles from 1999 to 2003. While at BC, Bell was a two-time All-American guard, is the school's all-time leading scorer, and is the second all-time leading scorer in the history of the Big East Conference. Bell was then drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round (16th pick overall) of the 2003 NBA draft. He went on to play professionally in both the NBA and overseas. In 2020, Boston College also retired his jersey.

Carolyn Arnebeck, AHA’s athletic director, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Troy back on campus where his legendary basketball career began! I’m excited to see where he can take the Stars boys basketball program. Troy has an elite knowledge of the game and brings a contagious and unparalleled level of energy and enthusiasm in all that he does. I know the student-athletes, assistant coaches, and our entire athletic program will benefit from Troy’s leadership.”

When asked what his new role as Stars head coach means to him, Troy replied, “Holy Angels holds a special place in my heart. Together, I believe we can build something that we can all be very proud of!”

Coach Bell will hold introductory meetings this spring (dates TBD) with all players from the classes of 2024 - 2027. Additionally, he will lead the AHA Summer Experience developmental camps for grade schoolers and will begin summer workouts for current basketball players in June.
