COMING UP THIS WEEK
Starfest RSVP Deadline is Tomorrow!
We hope you will join us at Starfest: Black & White Soiree on Saturday 4/27 to enjoy community-building, fabulous food and drink, and supporting our students. It is very helpful for planning purposes when you purchase your tickets before the 4/12 RSVP deadline. Get your tickets online here! Thank you for your support.
To answer a few questions, the dress code suggestion for Starfest is "Cocktail Attire - black and white, if you desire." This usually means a dress or dressy pants for women and a suit or sport coat/tie for men. We suggest wearing whatever makes you comfortable!
Wednesday, April 17 is Late Start
Wednesday, April 17 is a PLC (Professional Learning Community) day at AHA. Teachers will gather for early morning professional meetings. Classes begin at 8:25 am. Buses run at their regular times and there's supervision for students who arrive at school early.
Change to the Calendar
In order to gain back instructional minutes in the overall 2018-19 academic calendar, we will make full days, regular A schedules, on Friday, April 26 and Friday, May 24. These days were previously scheduled as E schedules. On April 26 and May 24, school will begin and end at the regular times of 7:50am to 2:40pm. The WAC Conferences, scheduled for April 26, will be scheduled into the PLC time on May 1.
Senior photos are requested for the Senior Slide Show by April 19th
The yearbook will be creating a senior slide show that will be shown at a convocation and the senior retreat. Each slide will include 2-4 pictures (preschool, elementary, high school, graduation). We are able to use senior portraits that were submitted to the yearbook but we are looking for a photo or two of your student as younger kid. Please send all photos to email@example.com. Please attach all photos to a single email. Photos are due Friday, April 19th.
Last weekend to catch Sister Act
Academy of Holy Angels Starlight Productions presents the 2019 Spring Musical Sister Act this weekend on Friday, Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 4 pm. Tickets are general admission, $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Reserve your tickets at firstname.lastname@example.org. Read more, see playbill and watch promo videos.
Second Graduation Line-Up Practice is Monday, April 29
Seniors will have their second Graduation Line-Up practice during homeroom on Monday, April 29. Graduates process by height at Holy Angels so it would be ideal if female students had the shoes they will be wearing for Graduation by April 29. Information was sent home in February about the dress code for graduation. As a reminder:
We will be very particular about the attire of seniors on both Celebration Day and at the graduation ceremony. Girls should choose a white dress that does not show through the rather translucent white gown. Any nylons need to be flesh tone, and shoes should be white or off-white – no flip flops or tennis shoes. We recommend that shoes be comfortable and appropriate for walking on stairs. Shorts and t-shirts are not allowed. Boys will be required to wear dark dress pants, dress shoes, a white shirt, and a tie. Any senior dressed inappropriately will not be allowed to walk with their class.
Blue and Gold Service Awards intent to receive due May 1
Students anticipating receiving a Blue or Gold service award should fill out the form published in the Daily Bulletin by May 1 to express their intent. Read more about the service awards and requirement.
WE WANT YOU TO KNOW
2018-2019 AHA Parent Association Staff Service and Dedication Award
It is a tradition for the AHA Parent Association to honor a non-teaching AHA staff member on behalf of the parent community during Celebration Day. So of course, we would like to collect nominations from parents! We are looking for a non-teaching staff member who encompasses living out the AHA Way in their daily role as staff members at Holy Angels. This non-teaching staff member may have helped you/your family, or you may have witnessed this person assisting others in the AHA community. Share with us positive experience(s) that left you feeling that AHA is a place where people are empowered to succeed. Please email Joan McCrory, PA Chair, email@example.com with your nomination that highlights how this non-teaching staff member lives out the AHA Way. All nominations will be kept confidential.
Register for Star Power summer program
The Star Power Speed and Strength Program is an opportunity for student athletes to maximize their athletic potential. Star Power training represents the most advanced athletic training technologies available. These technologies include use of interval treadmill training, ground-based training, plyometrics, strength training, and resistance core training. They are designed to improve all aspects of athletic performance—strength, power, speed, agility, injury prevention and flexibility.
Besides teaching the body how to move, the Star Power Speed and Strength Program has the ability to show athletes how to successfully conquer the mental and physical components of their sport. Athletes will learn how to focus, gain confidence, and BELIEVE in themselves. The knowledge and skill athletes will gain from this program can be applied to any sport and throughout an entire athletic career. Any questions contact Coach Gunderson - firstname.lastname@example.org. Get more info and registration form.

FROM THE COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
Junior College Planning Day Assignments due April 12
During College Planning Day on Wednesday, February 13, the junior class heard from a variety of college speakers and a career panel of Holy Angels alums. Juniors also received information about their Junior College Portfolio Assignment which is due on Friday, April 12. Completed portfolios will include:
- a College Application Preparation Worksheet
- a completed College Application
- College Essay, typed, 650 word limit
- an Activities Resume
- a College search printout
- a Job Shadow/Interview completed and a half page summary typed on "Would I want to pursue this career, why or why not?"
Completion of the portfolio will be indicated on student transcripts. Any portfolio turned in after April 12 at 7:50 a.m. will be considered late and therefore permanently listed as "incomplete" on the transcript.
To get a STAR on the CCC Board
Senior Parents: Remind your student to bring in their admission and scholarship letters to their college counselor to get a STAR on the board. We need to know about scholarship awards for Celebration Day in the spring.
Senior grades count
Senior Parents: Please remind your senior that every college admission decision is conditional upon successful completion of high school. The college counselors will be sending a final transcript to the college your son or daughter decides to attend after graduation. Colleges DO review these grade reports and if they note dropped classes or decreased grades, they will and do reconsider admission decisions and in some cases, rescind admission. Any schedule changes for third trimester must first be approved by colleges as students have applied and been accepted to schools with the understanding your student was enrolled in certain classes. Any changes to those classes could also impact their admission decisions. We absolutely believe the work seniors are doing now will help them be prepared for a more successful transition to college in the fall.
National Candidate Reply Date is May 1
Senior Parents: May 1 is the National Candidate Reply Date when seniors need to tell colleges where they will be attending by making a deposit to hold a spot on their campus. After this date, colleges are not required to hold a spot for admitted students. Students should see their counselor if they have questions about this. Also, please remind your senior to let their college counselor know where they have decided to attend college. After graduation, we will be sending a final transcript to colleges confirming graduation and we can't do this if we don't know where your student plans to enroll.
The Newman Connection
Senior Parents: The Newman Connection is an organization with the goal of keeping youth connected to the church by connecting our graduates with campus ministry options on college campuses. Information about The Newman Connection can be found at www.newmanconnection.com. We will be providing The Newman Connection with a list of our graduates and the colleges they are attending. If you DO NOT want your seniors’ information shared, email Ms. Kjorstad by May 6. If you opt out of this, she will not include their information in the list being sent to the Newman Connection. Ms. Kjorstad can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ACT deadlines approaching
The deadline to register for the June 8 ACT is May 3. Also, the July 13 ACT will likely fill very quickly because of limited test center sites so if your student is interested in signing up for this test date, they should register now. Students can register online at actstudent.org
