Holy Angels' School Nurse Presents Vaping Facts to AHA Students

On Thursday, February 7, Janet Patience, RN, spoke to the AHA student body about vaping. She pointed out short-term and long-term health consequences of vaping. The adolescent brain does not finish developing until around the age of 25. It has been verified by research that those who try nicotine products early in life are more likely to develop dependence to the drug which also may lead to the disruption of brain circuits that underlie attention and cognitive skills..

Review this slideshow again with your student and tell them you do not want them to vape. We want our students healthy and safe! There is a poster contest associated with this cause worth a $50 Amazon gift card - students can get more information from the Daily Bulletin as well as from Mrs. Patience.

Sophomore Career Interest Inventory

Looking for fun dinner conversation with your sophomores? Ask them about the results of their "Do What You Are" career interest inventory they took this week. Sophomores completed a career interest inventory called "Do What You Are" on Tuesday, February 12 in their family connection accounts in homeroom. This will provide sophomores with possible majors and careers based on their personality. If your sophomore give you a blank stare when you ask about this, perhaps they haven't completed the inventory yet. Do encourage them to do so! The college counselors will review the results of the inventory and the information gleaned from the surveys with students during a Sophomore Class meeting on Tuesday, March 12.

Junior College Planning Day Assignments due April 12

During College Planning Day on Wednesday, February 13, the junior class heard from a variety of college speakers and a career panel of Holy Angels alums. Juniors also received information about their Junior College Portfolio Assignment which is due on Friday, April 12. Completed portfolios will include:

  • a College Application Preparation Worksheet
  • a completed College Application
  • College Essay, typed, 650 word limit
  • an Activities Resume
  • a College search printout
  • a Job Shadow/Interview completed and a half page summary typed on "Would I want to pursue this career, why or why not?"

Completion of the portfolio will be indicated on student transcripts. Any portfolio turned in after April 12 at 7:50 a.m. will be considered late and therefore permanently listed as "incomplete" on the transcript.

ACT Deadline approaching

Deadline to Register for the April 13 ACT is Friday, March 8. Students can register online at

ACT prep classes available

Junior Parents: If you were not able to attend the Practice ACT Score Back session in November, you should have received scores in the mail. There are several ACT Prep Classes available in the coming months. If you are interested in the Sylvan ACT Prep Class, here is a link to information about the course. The Sylvan ACT Prep class taught at Holy Angels is $799. If you are interested in the AHA Test Prep class taught by AHA faculty, the cost is $200 and here is a link to that registration form. Please contact Ms. Kjorstad if you have questions.

Career Speakers needed throughout school year

Parents: Are you interested in sharing your career with AHA students? The College and Career Center hosts career speakers in the CCC January-April. If you would be interested in speaking to interested students in the CCC for a class period, please contact Ms. Kjorstad at and she will get you on the calendar! All juniors must complete an interview with someone in the career field of their interest for the Junior College Planning Portfolios. Your participation is appreciated!!

To get a STAR on the CCC Board

Senior Parents: Remind your student to bring in their admission and scholarship letters to their college counselor to get a STAR on the board. We need to know about scholarship awards for Celebration Day in the spring.

Senior grades count

Senior Parents: Please remind your senior that every college admission decision is conditional upon successful completion of high school. The college counselors will be sending a final transcript to the college your son or daughter decides to attend after graduation. Colleges DO review these grade reports and if they note dropped classes or decreased grades, they will and do reconsider admission decisions and in some cases, rescind admission. Any schedule changes for third trimester must first be approved by colleges as students have applied and been accepted to schools with the understanding your student was enrolled in certain classes. Any changes to those classes could also impact their admission decisions. We absolutely believe the work seniors are doing now will help them be prepared for a more successful transition to college in the fall.
