Wednesday, January 9th is late start

AHA uses PLC schedules bi-monthly so that teachers can meet in Professional Learning Communities. Classes begin at 8:25 am. Buses will run at their regular time and there will be supervision for students who arrive early.

Conference registration begins on January 7th

Trimester 2 parent/teacher conferences are January 24, 2:30-7pm and January 25 from 8am to noon. Registration for conferences is January 7-22. AHA uses an online registration system. To register, go to > Parents > Conference Registration. The conference registration system will ask you for a master password, which was in the emailed version of this newsletter. Then, you'll either enter the login that you created when you registered previously, or you'll have the opportunity to create a new login. You will not be using your NetClassroom ID and password for conference registration. If you wish to schedule a meeting during conferences with Ms. Hocks (Learning Variations), please email or Mr. Gunderson (RTI)

AP student meeting is Friday, January 4

At a parent meeting on Thursday, January 3rd, Guidance Counselor Matt O'Leary shared information with parents about registering for Advanced Placement courses at AHA. Students considering AP classes should attend the Friday, January 4th meeting in the theater during homeroom and ask for an AP application from the teacher who teaches that class or teaches in the subject area. The deadline for submitting applications is January 18th. Students with further questions about an AP class should talk to the teacher of that class.

Sign up to bring a dessert for parent/teacher conferences

Conference time is approaching and the Parent Association is once again asking families to consider bringing in a dessert for our staff to enjoy during their dinner break at conferences. We are also looking for a host/hostess to help with the event from approximately 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm. Please click the link to access the sign up:

2019-20 Course registration process begins now

Parents, your son or daughter will begin the registration process for the 2019-20 school year soon. In order for them to request courses, you must respond to the email you will receive from TADS in January and re-enroll your student for the 2019-20 school year. This must be completed by January 19, 2019. If you do not receive an email from TADS by January 7, please call them directly at 612-548-3320. Counselors will visit classrooms the second week in January to discuss the registration process. Viewable copies of documents will be available on the AHA website in January and emailed out to all parents, including a tutorial on how to request courses online.

Senior Theology Options

In December, Juniors heard about their Senior Year Theology course options.  The first option is a series of courses consisting of Moral Philosophy, Comparative Religions, and Senior Theology Seminar - each providing an excellent college-preparatory foundation for our Senior students. The second, year-long option, is for those wishing to apply to the Campus Ministry Team.  This ministry involves Service, Worship, and Pastoral Care through mentoring younger students, and is an important part of our AHA faith community.  Last week's presentation included the application process for the Campus Ministry Team.  A checklist for this process as well as additional forms and information is available in their Junior Theology class' Google Classroom.  We look forward to our Juniors discerning the best academic path for them.  Read the Theology course descriptions online in the Program of Studies.

Welcome Josie Robinson

AHA welcomes Josie Robinson to the Guidance Department. Ms. Robinson will work two, part-time days/week at AHA, focusing on personal counseling and in-class lessons along side Sarah Taffe, guidance department chair, and Matt O'Leary, counselor.

Junior Parents: The college counselors sent out letters around December 20 regarding the assigned date and time for your student's junior meeting. If the time assigned does not work for your family, please contact your counselor immediately to reschedule. Ms. Kjorstad works with students with last names A-L and can be reached at or 612-798-2691. Mrs. Proctor works with students with last names M-Z and can be reached at or 612-798-2639. It is helpful for us if both student and parent complete the assigned surveys ahead of the meeting so we are able to prepare more completely for the meeting in advance. Thank you and Happy New Year!

Transcript request deadlines

Senior parents: Please remind your senior if they are applying to colleges with a deadline of February 1, they need to request their transcript by January 15. Remember: It is school policy that we do not submit test scores to colleges. Students need to have their test scores sent to colleges directly from the testing agency. They can request this online through or Be aware that many schools are beginning to allow self-reported test scores as part of the admission process. Students should check the websites of their colleges for the policies of each school. Finally, remind your student to bring in their admission and scholarship letters to their college counselor to get a STAR on the board. We need to know about scholarship awards for Celebration Day in the spring.

Next Scholarship Search Workshop is Jan. 9

Senior Parents: The college counselors will be offering the second Scholarship Search Workshop on January 9 at 7:30 am in the CCC. Seniors should sign up ahead of time in the CCC and bring their Chromebooks charged to learn tips about searching for scholarships online and through various resources.
