Coming up this weekCOMING UP THIS WEEK

Thursday, Oct. 18th - Monday, Oct. 22nd: MEA Break

There will be no school from October 18th through October 22nd. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 23rd. Enjoy the long weekend!

Wednesday, Oct. 24th: Sisters of Peace Viewing at AHA

On Wednesday, October 24th, all AHA junior and senior students will view scenes from the MN History Theater's play, Sisters of Peace and hear direct comments by the McDonald Sisters, CSJ.  The concepts of peace and justice by AHA founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelt (CSJ), are emphasized in the theology curriculum studied by these two grade levels in particular.

"... the McDonald sisters Brigid, Jane, Rita and Kate: legendary peace activists, who grew up as sisters in a large Irish farm family in Hollywood Township, Minnesota. The four sisters all entered the convent and became Catholic nuns who devoted their lives to teaching and peace activism. That’s only part of the story. Their incredible lives come to life in this stirring play that take us on a journey from the security gates of Honeywell Corporation, to the School of the Americas and back to the steps of the Cathedral of St. Paul. Wherever there is injustice, the chances of bumping into the McDonald sisters are high.

This is their story! A story of love, passion and compassion – all with a sense of humor that comes from their wonderful Irish upbringing! These Sisters of Peace are Minnesota legends, for sure!"

College and CareerFROM THE COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER

Oct. 24th & 25th: MN National College Fair

The MN National College Fair will be held Wednesday, October 24 and Thursday, October 25 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  The evening session of the college fair is on Wednesday evening from 5:00-8:00 p.m.  Information for the fair can be found here

Students should register ahead of time for the fair and get a barcode they can present to the college representatives to scan at each table to have their information entered into college databases. This saves students from  needing to complete cards at each school.

Freshman meeting with college counselors

Freshman parents: We have begun 9th grade meetings and appreciate if your 9th grader can complete the survey in their family connection account ahead of the meeting time if possible. If the time assigned does not work for your family, please call your college counselor immediately to reschedule. Ms. Kjorstad works with students last names A-L and can be reached via email or phone at 612-798-2691. Mrs. Proctor works with students last names M-Z and can be reached via email or phone at 612-798-2639. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Transcript request deadlines

Senior parents: Please remind your senior if they are applying to colleges with a November 15 deadline, they need to submit their request for transcripts in Family Connection by Tuesday, October 30. We currently have 328 transcript requests we are diligently working to submit to colleges. Remember: It is school policy that we do not submit test scores to colleges. Students need to have their test scores sent to colleges directly from the testing agency. They can request this online through actstudent.org or sat.org. Be aware that many schools are beginning to allow self-reported test scores as part of the admission process. Students should check the websites of their colleges for the policies of each school. Finally, remind your student to bring in their admission and scholarship letters to their college counselor to get a STAR on the board. We need to know about scholarship awards for Celebration Day in the spring.

Senior parents, a word of advice for completing the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available online at https://fafsa.ed.gov Here are a few tips that may help as you complete the FAFSA:

  • One parent and the student must each create a FSA ID. This can be done at the following site:https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid
  • STUDENT and PARENT MUST USE DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESSES to create your FSA ID. Write your username and password down. When you are completing the FAFSA, this username and password are your FSA ID.
  • Complete the FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/

Mark your calendar now to attend College Financial Aid Night at Holy Angels on Monday, November 5 at 6:30 pm in the theater. Questions? Contact Mrs. Proctor.
