COMING UP THIS WEEK
Friday, October 5: Join us for the Homecoming football game versus Benilde-St. Margaret's at 7:00 PM!
Saturday, October 6: Homecoming Dance. Cost is $5 and two items for food shelf donation. The dance is a dress-up dance and is for AHA students only.
Friday, Oct. 5th: PACC payment due
Students who registered for PACC (Program for Advanced College Credit) through St. Mary's University need to turn their payments in by the end of the day, this Friday, October 5th. Each credit is $75, and checks can be made out to AHA and brought to Mr. O'Leary or the main office. Read more about PACC, including the credit totals for each class, and don't hesitate to contact Counselor and PACC Program Coordinator Matt O'Leary if you have any questions about payment or registration. Thank you!
Seeking volunteers for Grandparents & Special Friends Day
Various shifts of volunteers are needed to help make this wonderful event happen. We appreciate your help in advance. The event is on Friday, October 12th. Volunteer needs include:
- Set-up shift: 6 volunteers need from 8:45 AM - 11 AM
- Event shift: 8 volunteers neede from noon - 3 PM

Monday, Oct. 8th: Math STARS information session
Is your student looking for a winter activity that doesn't take too much time each week? Is your student interested in learning new things and meeting new people who also like to learn new things? Does your student enjoy math? If the answer to any of these questions is "Yes," check out Math STARS! There will be an informational meeting Monday, October 8, 2:45 - 3:00 in Room 3363. Students in grades 9-12 are welcome. For further information, contact Mrs. Poshusta or 612-798-2661.
Tuesday, Oct. 9th: Sophomore field trip
On October 9th, all 10th graders will be taking a field trip to the St. Paul Cathedral between 11:30 and 2:30 as part of the Church and Paschal Mystery classes in the Theology Department. Permission forms will be sent with students for parents to sign and return. A small fee will be included to help pay for the transportation. Students will need to bring their own bag lunch and beverage. If they have a cell phone with internet access, they will be encouraged to bring them along so they can engage in a virtual guided tour as part of the experience.
Wednesday, Oct. 10th: Testing day, no school for seniors
On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the PSAT will be administered to all Juniors. The PSAT, which is a shortened version of the College Board’s SAT, gives students an opportunity to identify their academic strengths and weaknesses as they prepare for standardized tests this winter/spring. The PSAT scores are also used to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. Juniors need to bring a calculator and #2 pencils to the exam, and be sure to leave phones in lockers or at home please.
Freshmen & Sophomores will take the Pre-ACT on Wednesday, Oct 10. The Pre-ACT give students valuable practice by including questions and scores similar to those on the ACT. The Pre-ACT also provides early indication of progress and ideas for improvement. Students will be dismissed when testing is finishing, shortly after 11 a.m. and buses will leave at 11:30 a.m. Freshmen and Sophomores need to bring a calculator and #2 pencils to the exam, and be sure to leave phones in lockers or at home please.
Seniors have the day off to visit colleges.
School store open during conferences
STARS Spirit, Holy Angel's school store, will be open additional hours during fall conferences. The store is fully stocked with uniform sweatshirts, 1/4 zips, hoodies, polo shirts, sweatpants, beanies and hats. Check out the new arrivals of spirit wear from Under Armour! Open Wednesday and Thursday, 2:00 - 7:00 pm.
Friday, Oct 12th: Grandparents & Special Friends Day
RSVP deadline is tomorrow, October 5th! The 2018 Grandparents & Special Friends Day will be held on Friday, October 12th at 1:00 PM in the gymnasium. Invitations have been mailed directly to grandparents. Full details available here.

Mid-Tri 1 grades now available
Go to AHA's NetClassroom (located in the Parent portal on academyofholyangels.org) and log on with your ID and password. Under the grades menu, click on Report Card. It's a good idea to print, download or otherwise save a copy of the Mid-Tri 1 Report Card if you'd like to do any comparisons to other marking term grades. Once Trimester 1 grades are posted at the end of November, the previous grade report is no longer available in NetClassroom.
If you've forgotten your ID or password, you can use the forgotten password page to have it emailed to the email address we have in your record. If this does not work for you or you have problems logging on or seeing grades, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance. Make sure to include your full name, your student's name and the email address you used on the forgotten password page.
Now open! Register for winter sports
Registration for winter sports is available here. All forms must be complete upon submission. All student athletes must complete a baseline concussion test through the Holy Angels health staff prior to participation in activities. A sports qualifying physical must be submitted in hard copy format to the activities office every three years.

*Testing is in room 2493. If you have a chrome book and mouse please bring it. The school has a limited number of laptops. Test takes approx. 45 minutes.

- Alpine ski, nordic sky, gymnastics, girls basketball, boys hockey - Nov. 12
- Boys basketball - Nov. 19
Final reminder to register for conferences
Register for parent/teacher conferences through October 8. Parent/teacher conferences are October 10 and 11 from 2-7:00 pm. AHA uses an online registration system. To register, go to www.academyofholyangels.org > Parents > ConferenceRegistration. The conference registration system will ask you for a master password which is case sensitive. Then, you'll either enter the login that you created when you registered previously, or you'll have the opportunity to create a new login. You will not be using your NetClassroom ID and password for conference registration.

Math Time now available
Could your student benefit from some additional help with their math assignments? Does your student need a place to work on their assignments and get help if stuck on a question? Math Time is help from a math teacher for students from any grade or level of math. It is each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (except early dismissal days) from 2:45 - 3:30. Each day's location is posted on signs outside of the 3rd floor math classrooms.
Pick up a lawn sign!
On behalf of the admissions department, AHA lawn signs will be available in the main lobby starting Monday, 10/1. Please stop by to take one to display on your front lawn and show your STARS pride! Remember to take car decals from the lobby desk. Spread the word about AHA to family, friends, neighbors, coworkers!
Senior pictures are due by Oct. 17th
Senior parents: Reminder that graduation portraits, senior quotes and optional yearbook ads are due Tuesday, October 17th. If photos are not received by October 17th, the Josten's photo may be used in the yearbook. Get the information.
Attention OLG alums
Our Lady of Grace alums, there is a wonderful service opportunity at Our Lady of Grace to be a Sunday School teacher during masses. It would also be a wonderful way for families to get to know you, and by extension, get to know Holy Angels. This would count towards your required service hours! Interested? Contact Stephanie Lloyd.

Wednesday, Oct. 17th: Service recognition brunch
On Octber 17th, AHA will recognize student accomplishments for summer service hours. If students have served more than 25 hours this past summer and would like to be invited to a short recognition reception, they can check to see if their name is on this list. Names on the list you will receive an email invite on Oct 10. If your son or daughter's name is not on the list, add your hours to X2vol, then complete this form. Questions? Email Mr. Ruhland.

The annual Mother/Daughter lunch will be on Sunday, November 4. Information about the event will be emailed out to all families with girls next week. Questions about the event may be directed to Nancy Roscoe.

Monday, Nov. 5th: Sibling & Cousin Day
Mark your calendars for our AHA Sibling and Cousin Day on Monday, November 5, 2018. We welcome all 7th and 8th Grade siblings and cousins, to come join your AHA student for a day. Have lunch on Admissions, spend time together, meet friends, see classes and be a Future STAR!

Freshmen meeting with college counselors
Freshmen parents: You will be receiving a letter this week about the 9th grade meeting for you and your student from your college counselor. We will begin meetings next week. If the time assigned does not work for your family, please call your college counselor immediately to reschedule. Transcript request deadlines
Senior parents: Please remind your senior if they are applying to colleges with a November 1 deadline, they need to submit their request for transcripts in Family Connection by Friday, October 12. Remember: It is school policy that we do not submit test scores to colleges. Students need to have their test scores sent to colleges directly from the testing agency. They can request this online through actstudent.org or sat.org.
Application workshops for seniors
The college counselors will be offering two College Application Workshops for seniors needing assistance with completing college applications in the CCC on the following dates:
- Monday, October 8--2:45-3:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, October 17-7:30-8:15 am. This is a PLC so students need to sign up ahead of time to get a pass to be in the halls.
Senior parents, a word of advice for completing the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available online at https://fafsa.ed.gov Here are a few tips that may help as you complete the FAFSA:
One parent and the student must each create a FSA ID. This can be done at the following site:https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid
STUDENT and PARENT MUST USE DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESSES to create your FSA ID. Write your username and password down. When you are completing the FAFSA, this username and password are your FSA ID.
Complete the FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/
As part of MN Goes to College Month in October, there is a FAFSA Completion Event hosted at Normandale Community College on Thursday, October 18 at 9:00 a.m. at 9700 France Avenue S., Bloomington, MN 55431.
