Friday, Sept 21st: Free practice ACT for juniors

Junior Parents: The entire junior class will take a free practice ACT test on Friday, September 21 during the school day. The test is provided by Sylvan Learning Center. Juniors will be testing from 1st through 5th or 6th hour so they should bring a snack for their break as they will likely test through their lunch period. Juniors will be released for the day when they complete their test. As a reminder, Friday, 9/21 is an E Schedule Early Dismissal day with the school day ending at 1:00 p.m. If your student is ill or absent on September 21, they can still take the Practice ACT at Sylvan's Edina location. Email Ms. Kjorstad for more information. If you have any questions about the Practice ACT, please contact Ms. Kjorstad at akjorstad@ahastars.org

Monday, Sept 24th: Picture retakes

Introducting JOSTENSPIX by Jostens. A new school portrait experience designed by you, for you. Preview your pictures before your pay, choose from mutiple poses and backgrounds, buy only what you want.  Order $20 or more and get free shipping; order $25 or more and receive free high res digital downloads.

Please avoid wearing green. JOSTENSPIX uses green screen technology, which creates more background options for your pictures but it makes green clothing disappear into the background — so please avoid wearing green on picture day!

Monday, Sept 24th: College Planning Night

Junior and Senior Parents: College Planning Night on Monday, September 24 is for juniors, seniors and their parents. The evening starts at 6:30 in the Chapel. We will have presenters from 14 regional and national universities. Topics include admission to Catholic universities, large public schools, and highly selective colleges; paying for college; making campus visits; college athletics and the NCAA and a session on applying to performing and visual arts programs. An invitation with a tentative agenda was sent earlier this month. Contact Tina Proctor at tproctor@ahastars.org for more information. We hope to see you there!

We want you to know

WE WANT YOU TO KNOW

A note from the AHA Admissions Dept.

Thank you to all our families, students, faculty, coaches and activities for all your volunteer work to make this year's STARS Are Out Tonight such a spectacular experience. The new turf Athletic Field was the perfect setting for our event, and having so much space to add games and rides made it that much more enjoyable. THANK YOU to all for coming and for bringing friends and neighbors with you. We so enjoy seeing Future STARS mixed in among our AHA STARS. We are grateful for our AHA community!

We are in the swing of visiting area Catholic grade schools to recruit our next Class of 2023! Please spread the good word about Holy Angels to your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and encourage them to visit campus and have a tour. We ask that you share their contact information with us (especially if they come from public or charter schools) and we will be sure to add them to our mailing lists for future dates.

We have car stickers (several sizes) for you in a Welcome Basket at the front desk in the Main Lobby. Help yourselves and display them with STAR pride. We also have yard signs on order...we'll have these in the lobby too once they arrive.

Finally, here are some upcoming dates:
*Parent Observation Morning: 10/17, 8 - 9:30 a.m. Parents, please consider joining our tour group to share your personal experiences about AHA.
*Fall Open House: 10/25, 6 - 8:30 p.m. This is our biggest admissions event of the year and we ask that you spread the word about it to 8th grade families. If you can help us with greeting families and joining a tour group, please email Meg Angevine.

Reminder to register for conferences

Register for parent/teacher conferences from September 21 through October 8. Parent/teacher conferences are October 10 and 11 from 2-7:00 pm. AHA uses an online registration system. To register, go to www.academyofholyangels.org > Parents > ConferenceRegistration. The conference registration system will ask you for a master password which is case sensitive. Then, you'll either enter the login that you created when you registered previously, or you'll have the opportunity to create a new login. You will not be using your NetClassroom ID and password for conference registration.

If you wish to schedule a meeting during conferences with Ms. Hocks (Learning Variations), please email dhocks@ahastars.org or Mr. Gunderson (RTI) jgunderson@ahastars.org.

Desserts for staff during conferences

Conference time is approaching and the Parent Association is once again asking families to consider bringing in a dessert for our staff to enjoy during their dinner break at conferences. We are also looking for a host/hostess to help with the event from approximately 3:30-6:30pm each day. Please click on this link to access the sign up. Thank you!

PSAT class offered on September 29

Junior Parents: On Wednesday, October 10, all juniors will be taking the PSAT, which is a shortened version of the College Board's SAT. The PSAT scores are used to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. In an effort to help our students who might be eligible for the National Merit Competition, Holy Angels will be offering a one-day PSAT test preparation class on Saturday, September 29. This class is most appropriate for students who are academically high achievers and have performed well on other standardized tests. If you want to register your junior for this class, please complete the registration form available here. If you are unsure whether your student should take this prep class, please contact Ms. Kjorstad at 612-798-2691. We will be offering several ACT Prep Classes this winter and spring for juniors wanting test preparation for the ACT which is the most common test taken by Holy Angels students.

Transfer Students, the College and Career Center counselors want to meet you!

A bus will depart AHA on Sunday morning, October 7 at approximately 8 a.m. and return Monday, October 8 around 10 p.m. Students will stay in a hotel in Bismarck and have the opportunity to tour campus, meet with faculty and students and see for themselves the many opportunities that exist at University of Mary.
