Have fun, make a difference & meet other parents - Oct 25 at 7 pm
Do you love planning events? Have great connections for auction items or creative ideas for decor? The Starfest Committee is a committed, fun group of parents and we'd love new faces and fresh ideas for Starfest 2018! Starfest is AHA's largest social event and largest fundraiser of the year. The Kick-Off Social is coming up Wed 10/25 @ 7:00 PM. Contact email@example.com if you're interested in learning more!
Open House is next week! Thursday, October 26, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Planning is well underway for our upcoming Open House. Many families of 8th and 7th graders attend and want to learn as much as they can about Holy Angels. We start with our Sports and Activities Fair at 6p.m., followed by academic presentations and tours of our beautiful school. We're seeking your help to spread the good word about AHA by:
- Volunteering that night to serve as a greeter and at registration tables from 5:45 - 6:30; and/or being part of one of our tour groups and chatting informally with families as we walk the hallways. (6:30 - 8:30ish)
- Please continue to talk about AHA to friends, family, neighbors, coworkers--your endorsement goes a long way to promoting our school. Consider bringing a family to the Open House too
Thanks for all you do to support our AHA community! Questions/comments? Call Meg Angevine at 612-798-0764 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Fall Play opens October 27

WE WANT YOU TO KNOW
AP Test Cost will be added to TADS billing process in November
This is a reminder that if your son or daughter has an AP class, he/she will be taking an AP test in May. The cost for each test is $60.00 and will be collected via TADS beginning in November. The only exception to the TADS collecting process is for International Students. They must work/pay directly with/to the business office c/o Nancy Cullen (612-798-2615). Nancy's office is in the business area on 2nd floor administrative wing. Collections need to be completed by January for test ordering. Read more about AP Testing.
Notice Regarding Accommodations for AP testing
To qualify for accommodations for AP testing, College Board requires documentation. If you have questions about this, please contact Janet Oliver at 612-798-2605 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last year, AHA embarked on a new initiative to loan money to struggling entrepreneurs in third world countries through a process called microfinance. We utilized a program called KIVA to achieve this goal. Click here for information on how the Holy Angels Kiva program prospered in its first year!
Senior Party Co-chair needed
Senior party plans are already underway. If there is anyone that would like to co-chair the senior party or have any questions about the senior party please contact Colleen Roberge at email@example.com or 952-237-9160
Student records and military recruiters; deadline for opting out is October 27
Both federal and state law require that secondary schools release names, addresses and home telephone numbers of students in grades 11 and 12 if requested by military recruiters. However, there is a provision that allows parents to opt out of this disclosure by informing the school that they DO NOT want their child’s information released to recruiters. If you would like your student’s information withheld, send your request - in writing, with your signature - by October 27, to Gina Meacham in the AHA Guidance Department, c/o Academy of Holy Angels, 6600 Nicollet Ave. S., Richfield, MN 55423.

FROM THE COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
Freshmen Meeting with their College Counselor
Freshmen Parents: You should have received a letter in early October about the 9th grade meeting for you and your student from your college counselor. If the time assigned does not work for your family, please call your college counselor immediately to reschedule. Ms. Kjorstad works with students last names A-L and can be reached at email@example.com or by phone at 612-798-2691. Mrs. Proctor works with students last names M-Z and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 612-798-2639. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Transcript Request Deadlines
Senior Parents: Please remind your senior if they are applying to colleges with a November 15 deadline, they need to submit their request for transcripts in Family Connection by this Monday, October 30. The counselors currently have 329 transcript requests in the system and need time to respond to all the requests by the November 15 deadline. Remember: It is school policy that we do not submit test scores to colleges. Students need to have their test scores sent to colleges directly from the testing agency. They can request this online through act.org or sat.org.
To get a STAR on the CCC board
Senior Parents: Remind your student to bring in their admission and scholarship letters to their college counselor to get a STAR on the board. We need to know about scholarship awards for Celebration Day in the spring.
Senior Parents: A word of advice for completing the FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available online at https://fafsa.ed.gov Here are a few tips that may help as you complete the FAFSA:
- One parent and the student must each create a FSA ID. This can be done at the following site:https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/fsaid
- STUDENT and PARENT MUST USE DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESSES to create your FSA ID. Write your username and password down. When you are completing the FAFSA, this username and password are your FSA ID.
- Seniors--we recommend you use a different email than your ahastars email to create your FSA ID as this will be your ID throughout college and your ahastars email will be inactive after graduation.
- Complete the FAFSA at https://fafsa.ed.gov/
College Financial Aid Night is November 6
Mark your calendar now to attend College Financial Aid Night at Holy Angels on Monday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Theater. Questions? Contact Mrs. Proctor at email@example.com
