Friday, Sept. 23 is an E schedule
September 23rd is an early dismissal, with school ending at 1 pm. Buses begin the afternoon routes at 1:10 pm. On E schedule days, regular hot lunch from Taher is not available. An AHA student group sells pizza from Richfield-based American Pie for $1.50 a slice. Students must pay with cash and are unable to use their school lunch account on these days. For a list of all of AHA's daily schedules and times, click here.

Juniors to take practice ACT on Sept 23
Junior Parents: The entire Junior class will take a free practice ACT test on Friday, September 23 during the school day.  The test is provided by Sylvan Learning Center who will then provide the results of the test to parents at a “Score Back” meeting onTuesday, December 6  in the Theater at 6:00 p.m.  Juniors will be testing from 1st through 5th or 6th hour so they should bring a snack as they will likely be testing through their lunch period. Juniors will be released for the day after they complete the test. If your student is ill or absent on Friday, they can still take the Practice ACT at Sylvan's Edina location. Email Ms. Kjorstad for more information.  If you have questions about the Practice ACT, please contact Ms. Kjorstad at akjorstad@ahastars.org

STARS Football game this Friday to be streamed online
Prepspotlight.tv has selected the AHA STARS vs Orono Spartans football game this Friday night as one of their featured games of the week.  In addition, AHA alumnus Alex Zappa '12 will be calling the game. This is a great way for alums, parents, or potential students to watch the football team play. To view the game, visit prepspotlight.tv on Friday night and click on the tab labeled "Academy of Holy Angels vs. Orono" in the lower part of their home screen. Go Stars!

Picture retakes are on Monday, September 26th
Student who have not had their picture taken yet may pick up a flyer from Mrs. Cassidy or get one on Monday, September 26th. Students wishing to have their pictures re-taken should bring their original packet with them on Monday.

 Parent/Teacher Conferences
Register for parent/teacher conferences starting September 26. Parent/teacher conferences are October 17 and 18. AHA uses an online registration system. The first day you can register for conferences is September 26 at 7 am. Registration closes on Thursday, October 13 at 9 pm. To register, go to www.academyofholyangels.org > Parents > Conference Registration. The conference registration system will ask you for a master password, which was in the emailed version of this newsletter . Then, you'll either enter the log-in that you created when you registered previously, or you'll have the opportunity to create a new log in. You will not be using your NetClassroom ID and password for conference registration.

 NetClassroom Login Information
Netclassroom is the online grading portal where students and parents can see daily assignments, daily grades, schedules and where mid-trimester and trimester report cards are posted.  If you have forgotten your NetClassroom login information, you can have it sent to you with the "forgot password" link on the "My Profile" login page. Enter the email where you receive AHA communications and a link to reset your password will be sent. If this does not work, call the main office at 612-798-2600 and we can look up your information for you.

   NHS Tutoring available
NHS (National Honor Society) holds weekly drop in tutoring sessions for any student at AHA.  The sessions are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:15 - 7:45 am in the LaRock room (which is connected to the library). Your student can drop by and ask questions about a homework assignment, a specific concept from a class, or to get a paper proofread.  No appointments are needed, the tutors (who are senior NHS members) are there waiting to answer questions, just look for the signs saying NHS tutoring.

In addition to the drop-in tutoring, NHS members can be requested for one-on-one tutoring for your son or daughter.  If this is something that you are interested in, please contact Lindsay Stone at lstone@ahastars.org for more information.

Please drive carefully while on the AHA campus
We remind all AHA community members, including staff, students, parents and visitors, to drive carefully while on the AHA campus and in the St. Peter's parking lot. There are many people walking across driveways, including Blessed Trinity students who come to AHA for enhancements in the morning. Please make sure you are braking and giving pedestrians the right of way, even when in a hurry.

'How to be the Best Sport Parent,' Dr. John Tauer
This year for our Fall Sports Kick-Off we had University of St. Thomas psychology professor, head basketball coach, and author Dr. John Tauer present 'How to Be the Best Sport Parent You Can Be.'  Dr. Tauer presented some great information to help parents navigate the often difficult task of being a sports parent.
For those of you who missed it, you can find a review and information on how to order Dr. Tauer's book here. The Athletic Department will continue to use and present the information that Dr. Tauer presented throughout the school year.

A reminder about AHA's medication policy
AHA does NOT have a school supply of any medicine. You must provide to the school nurse a supply of any medicine that your child needs to take along with the proper consent form. This includes ibuprofen, acetaminophen, inhalers, epipens, and Benadryl. The complete policy can be found in the student handbook.  You can also find all of the needed consent forms on the website. If you have any questions, please contact School Nurse Jan Nordstrom at jnordstrom@academyofholyangels.org

Grad HatFROM THE COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER

Planning college visits over Fall Break?
So is every other junior or senior in MN—Plan Ahead! Just a reminder that October 20 and 21 are very popular visit days at all Minnesota colleges as well as in North Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin. If you and your student are planning college visits over fall break, please call the colleges now to reserve space for a tour and appointments on campus.  Have a great visit!

College Planning Night is October 3rd
Junior and Senior Parents: College Planning Night on Monday, October 3rd is for juniors, seniors and their parents. The evening starts at 6:30 pm in the theater. Topics include admission to Catholic universities, large public schools, and highly selective schools; paying for college; making campus visits; playing college sports and a session on applying to Art and Theater programs. Contact Tina Proctor at 612-798-2639 or tproctor@ahastars.org  for more information.

Plan to attend the MN National College Fair on Oct 4th!
The Minnesota National College Fair is Tuesday, October 4 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Attend this fair with your student and see college representatives from around the country. For a list of all the colleges in attendance and tips on the fair, check out the National College Fair insert in the Sunday Star-Tribune over the next few weeks. Students should click here to register online. Register ahead of time for the fair and print out a label. The college representatives can then simply scan your label at each table to enter you in their database and this saves you from needing to complete cards at each school.

Juniors will take PSAT on Oct 19
Junior Parents: On Wednesday, October 19, the PSAT will be administered to all juniors. The PSAT, which is a shortened version of the College Board’s SAT, gives students an opportunity to identify their academic strengths and weaknesses as they prepare for standardized tests this winter/spring. The PSAT scores are also used to determine eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.  In an effort to help our students prepare for the PSAT, Holy Angels will be offering a one-day test preparation class on Saturday, October 8. The class will focus on core subject review, test structure and test-taking strategies. This class is most appropriate for students who are academically high achievers and have performed well on other standardized tests. If you are unsure whether your student should take this prep class, please call Ms. Kjorstad at 612-798-2691.  Get the registration form for the class.
