  Volunteers needed to help serve lunch
STARS CAFE is looking for volunteers to help serve lunch throughout the school year.  Any parents interested can contact the Stars Cafe at taher@ahastars.org.  Come and join us while we serve the great students at Holy Angels - usual schedule is 11:15 am - 12:45 pm - bring a friend and have lunch before you go about the rest of your day.  Hope to hear from you!!

 First Service Assignment due in early October
Grades 9-12 will receive assignments in theology for service this fall.  Students will receive a tutorial for our NEW software in October when the first service assignments are due. Please submit summer hours in October as well. It would be helpful to record the hours and the email address of the supervisor.  PACC registration ends on September 14
Registration for PACC courses is occurring now through and including Wednesday, September 14th. Forms can be picked up from any of the PACC teachers and should be given, along with a check, to Mr. Koch in room 2103 before or after school. Please note there are several changes for PACC registration this year. The fee per credit is now $75 and checks need to be made out to Academy of Holy Angels. This is a hard deadline by St. Mary’s and PACC, so students are strongly encouraged to get forms and check in before the September 14th deadline.

Please be aware that some colleges may transfer not only the class/credit you receive from Saint Mary’s to your program of study at their college, but also will transfer the grade into your college GPA.  Be aware you want to do your best possible academically in these courses, if you are trying to gain credit for PACC at your college of choice.  For more info, visit the PACC website

We are seeking parent volunteers to help make this party a safe and fun event for all. Would you be willing to help in one or more of these ways?

  • Pre-event set up (4 p.m.)
  • During the event (5 - 7 p.m.): oversee a game, help greeting families and registering them, etc.
  • Take-down (7 p.m.)

AHA has policies in place for its employees about how to communicate, so that our communications are clear, consistent, and transparent. We ask coaches, teachers, and staff members to use AHA emails and phones when they contact you.  Graduation Portraits due Wednesday, October 19th
Senior Parents: Reminder that graduation portraits, senior quotes and optional yearbook ads are due Wednesday, October 19th. Students may choose to use their Lifetouch photo instead of a professional portrait. Get details
 
 Mentors for Star Tech Robotics needed!
Star Tech Robotics is an intensive STEM program where students learn valuable professional skills. It is a lot more than just building robots. Students are required to do fundraising, community demonstrations, and marketing in addition to building and programming the robot.  The team is looking for assistant adult mentors in all fields to share their knowledge and experiences, as well as learn new skills to help the team.  The team meets year round, however the most intense portion of the year takes place in January and February. If you are able to provide any assistance, please contact Jason Hall at jhall@ahastars.org for additional information.
 
 Fall Driver Training begins in November
The next AAA driver training session at AHA begins on November 7th. The four-part comprehensive program includes:
  • 30 hours of classroom instruction;
  • parent/guardian night;
  • driver impact panel; and
  • six hours of behind-the-wheel lessons.

Classroom consists of ten days held on November 7, 8, 10, 14, 15, 17, 28, 29, December 1 and 5.  Classroom sessions will run after school from 3:00-6:15 pm at AHA.  If a student is unable to attend a classroom day, make-up options are available.

 Friday, Sept 2nd is an E schedule
The first Friday of school is an early dismissal, with school ending at 1 pm. Buses begin the afternoon routes at 1:10 pm. On E schedule days, regular hot lunch from Taher is not available. An AHA student group sells pizza from Richfield-based American Pie for $1.50 a slice. Students must pay with cash and are unable to use their school lunch account on these days.  No School on Monday, Sept 5
This Monday, September 5th is Labor Day and there is no school. School will resume on Tuesday, September 6th.

 STEM diploma letters of intent due Sept 2nd
Seniors who are planning to earn a STEM diploma this academic year need to turn in their letter of intent to Donna Poshusta in room 3363 by 1:15 pm on Friday, September 2nd. Read more about this program
 

  Wed, Sept. 7th, is a PLC day; school starts late
This coming Wednesday is a Professional Learning Community (PLC) day for AHA teachers who gather before school for department and grade-level meetings. School starts late for students at 8:25 a.m. Buses run at their regular times, and there’s supervision at school for students who arrive early.

 Academic Reception is Sept 7 at 7:30 am

If your child received a Scholar of Distinction or High Honors designation in all three trimesters of the 2015-16 school year, you should have received an invitation in the mail for the Academic Reception. It will be held this year on Sept 7 from 7:30 - 8:30 am. Because September 7th is a PLC or late start day, classes do not start that day until 8:25 am, so that students being honored can attend with their parents.
 
 School Store Hours resumed this week
STARS SPIRIT, AHA's school store, will resume regular school day hours coinciding with the beginning of the school year. The store is open from Monday to Friday from 7 to 8 am and then again from 11 am to 1 pm. You are invited to stop in and pick up school uniform-approved sweatshirts or spirit wear.
 
 Booster Club passes are available online
The AHA Booster Club sponsors a pass that is available for purchase and provides admission to all home athletic events (excluding hockey and MSHSL tournaments) and admission to all home fine art activities. The pass application is available here.
 
 Volunteer training to be held on Sept 7
We'd love to have you join us.  Depending on your role, you may need to complete the Essential 3 that are the Archdiocesan requirements of the Safe Environment Training. We'll need you to read and sign the Code of Conduct, complete a background check, and attend Virtus Training. Please be in contact with Becky Egan, HR, if you have questions, began@ahastars.org.  Stars Are Out Tonight is Sept 9
An all-family event for the entire AHA community, Stars Are out Tonight offers food, music, fun and games for all ages. The event is from 5-7 pm on Friday, September 9. Read more.

  Welcome Back to School night is Wed, Sept 14th
Parents, there’s no better way to meet all your student’s teachers and to learn what the school day is like. Welcome Back to School Night begins at 6:30 p.m. Senior parents, there’s an additional meeting for you at 5:30 p.m. to help you stay up to date on the college admissions and financial aid process. Stars Spirit School Store will be open on Back to School Night for your shopping convenience. 

  Patchin to speak at AHA on September 16
Justin Patchin, co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center and a professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be back at AHA on September 16th to speak to students during a special assembly and to parents in a morning session co-sponsored by the AHA Parent Association and Administration. An author of more than 8 books and dozens of articles on the intersections of teens and technology, Patchin last spoke to AHA students in 2012.  Read more at http://www.justinpatchin.com or http://cyberbullying.org/

 Freshmen and Parent Mixer is Sept 16
Freshmen and their parents are invited to separately held mixers at AHA on Friday September 16th from 7-9 pm. The freshmen mixer is planned and led by the senior students in the Campus Ministry program and the parent mixer is sponsored by the AHA Parent Association. Don't miss it! 

  Grandparents Day is October 7
Our wonderful AHA Grandparents Day will be held on Friday, October 7th, 2016 from 1:00-3:30 pm. Invitations were mailed directly to grandparents on August 29th.  If your grandparent(s) did not receive an invitation in the mail or if you have any questions, please contact Sue DePauw, Executive Assistant at sdepauw@ahastars.org  or 612-798-2620

 SAT deadline is Sept 1
Students interested in taking the October 1 SAT or SAT Subject tests must register by September 1. Students can register online at www.collegeboard.org 

 Senior Parent meeting is Sept 14
 Senior Parents: Mark your calendars to attend the Senior Parent meeting on Wednesday, September 14 at 5:30 in the Theater before Back To School Night.   • Dan Dimond, who will be awarded the Dedicated Lifetime Award by META, the Minnesota Educational Theater Association, on September 17th.
  • The Cross Country team, who hosted a meet at Powderhorn Park on August 27th. 14 teams competed and the AHA boys finished first of the Tri-Metro teams.  Junior Luke Miller finished 8th out of 100 runners. See photos on the Cross Country team page.
