 Volunteer training to be held on September 7
We'd love to have you join us.  Depending on your role, you may need to complete the Essential 3 that are the Archdiocesan requirements of the Safe Environment Training. We'll need you to read and sign the Code of Conduct, complete a background check, and attend Virtus Training. Please be in contact with Becky Egan, HR, if you have questions, began@ahastars.org. AHA will host a Virtus session on Wednesday, September 7, 6:30 p.m. Register online now

  Volunteers needed to help serve lunch
STARS CAFE is looking for volunteers to help serve lunch throughout the school year.  Any parents interested can contact the Stars Cafe at taher@ahastars.org.  Come and join us while we serve the great students at Holy Angels - usual schedule is 11:15 am - 12:45 pm - bring a friend and have lunch before you go about the rest of your day.  Hope to hear from you!!

   Volunteer help needed for STARS Are Out Tonight!
We are seeking parent volunteers to help make this party a safe and fun event for all. Would you be willing to help in one or more of these ways?
  • Pre-event set up (4 p.m.)
  • During the event (5 - 7 p.m.): oversee a game, help greeting families and registering them, etc.
  • Take-down (7 p.m.)

  How to Contact an AHA Staff Member, Teacher, or Coach.
AHA has policies in place for its employees about how to communicate, so that our communications are clear, consistent, and transparent. We ask coaches, teachers, and staff members to use AHA emails and phones when they contact you. When you need to contact them, please use the AHA addresses and phones.  If you need to look up contact information, consult the directory on the website or call the main office at 612.798.2600. Access the Staff & Services Directory for AHA staff members and teachers. For Coach information, look on the sport or activity page or access AHA's MSHSL directory.
 
 Mentors for Star Tech Robotics needed!
Star Tech robotics is an intensive STEM program where students learn valuable professional skills. It is a lot more than just building robots. Students are required to do fundraising, community demonstrations, and marketing in addition to building and programming the robot.  The team is looking for assistant adult mentors in all fields to share their knowledge and experiences, as well as learn new skills to help the team.  The team meets year round, however the most intense portion of the year takes place in January and February. If you are able to provide any assistance please contact Jason Hall at jhall@ahastars.org for additional information.

Coming Up this WeekCOMING UP THIS WEEK

 School starts this week 
School starts on Monday, August 29th, with a shortened day of school featuring staggered start times:

  • Ninth grade—7:50 to 11:40 am
  • Tenth and eleventh grade — 8:30 to 11 am
  • Seniors — 9:30 to 11:40 am
  • Buses will leave at noon

AHA will celebrate a liturgy the first day of school. Students do not need to be in uniform, but it is a dress-up day. Read more.

 Computers to be issued on Tuesday, August 30th
Ninth graders do not need to bring their computers to school the first day. 10th, 11th and 12th graders will be issued computers in Homeroom on Tuesday, August 30th.

 Parents, you're invited to coffee
After you drop off your students for the first day of school, stop by our courtyard for coffee from 7:15- 8:30 am. 

 School pictures for grades 10-12 is Monday, August 29
Students in grades 10-12 will have their photos taken by Lifetouch on the first day of school. Ninth graders who didn't have their photo taken at Orientation on Friday, August 19th can also have it taken that day.  View the Lifetouch picture order form. 

 Your back to school packet is online too
A letter with information about the beginning of the school year was mailed to families the last week in July. Access it on our website.

  Friday, Sept 2nd is an E schedule
The first Friday of school is an early dismissal, with school ending at 1 pm. Buses begin the afternoon routes at 1:10 pm. On E schedule days, regular hot lunch from Taher is not available. An AHA student group sells pizza from Richfield-based American Pie for $1.50 a slice. Students must pay with cash and are unable to use their school lunch account on these days.  School Store Hours resume this week
STARS SPIRIT, AHA's school store, will resume regular school day hours coinciding with the beginning of the school year. The store is open from Monday to Friday from 7 to 8am and then again from 11 am to 1 pm. You are invited to stop in and pick up school uniform-approved sweatshirts or spirit wear.
 
 Booster Club passes are available online
The AHA Booster Club sponsors a pass that is available for purchase and provides admission to all home athletic events (excluding hockey and MSHSL tournaments) and admission to all home fine art activities. The pass application is available here.

Binoculars A LOOK AHEAD

 Academic Reception is Sept 7 at 7:30 am
If your child made honor roll in the 2015-16 school year, you should have received an invitation in the mail for the Academic Reception. It will be held this year on Sept 7 from 7:30 - 8:30 am. Because September 7th is a PLC or late start day, classes do not start that day until 8:25 am and students are encouraged to attend.

 Stars Are Out Tonight is Sept 9
An all-family event for the entire AHA community, Stars Are out Tonight offers food, music, fun and games for all ages. The event is from 5-7 pm on Friday, September 9. Read more.

  Welcome Back to School night is Wed, Sept 14th
Parents, there’s no better way to meet all your student’s teachers and to learn what the school day is like. Welcome Back to School Night begins at 6:30 p.m. Senior parents, there’s an additional meeting for you at 5:30 p.m. to help you stay up to date on the college admissions and financial aid process. Stars Spirit School Store will be open on Back to School Night for your shopping convenience. 

  Patchin to speak at AHA on September 16
Justin Patchin, co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center and a professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be back at AHA on September 16th to speak to students during a special assembly and to parents in a morning session co-sponsored by the AHA Parent Association and Administration. An author of more than 8 books and dozens of articles on the intersections of teens and technology, Patchin last spoke to AHA students in 2012.  Read more at http://www.justinpatchin.com or http://cyberbullying.org/

 Freshmen and Parent Mixer is Sept 16
Freshmen and their parents are invited to separately held mixers at AHA on Friday September 16th from 7-9 pm. The freshmen mixer is planned and led by the senior students in the Campus Ministry program and the parent mixer is sponsored by the AHA Parent Association. Don't miss it!

 SAT deadline is Sept 1
Students interested in taking the October 1 SAT or SAT Subject tests must register by September 1. Students can register online at www.collegeboard.org 

 Senior Parent meeting is Sept 14
 Senior Parents: Mark your calendars to attend the Senior Parent meeting on Wednesday, September 14 at 5:30 in the Theater before Back To School Night. The college counselors will be reviewing information shared with your students in a meeting on September 6. Questions--contact Ms. Kjorstad at 612-798-2691 or email at akjorstad@ahastars.org  
 
 Summer CCC blog includes review of NC colleges
Ms. Kjorstad visited some colleges in North Carolina this summer and has written about each of the schools on the College and Career Center Blog. Read about her first visit to UNC-Chapel Hill plus other posts from Mrs. Proctor's spring visits.
