New Basketball Coach
Updated

Academy of Holy Angels is excited to announce the hiring of Jimmy Mireri to lead the STARS boys basketball program as its new varsity head coach. Coach Mireri comes to AHA from Wayzata High School. He has been a part of their coaching staff for the past six years and helped the team advance to the Class AAAA State Championship game over the last two seasons. Jimmy was also on the Wayzata football coaching staff when the team won the State Championship in 2019.

Carolyn Arnebeck, AHA's athletic director, said, "I'm thrilled to welcome Coach Mireri to AHA and I am eager to see where he can take the boys basketball program. Jimmy comes highly recommended by respected college and high school coaches. I feel his experience working, coaching, and participating at the grade school, high school, and collegiate levels will help create a solid foundation for our boys program. Coach Mireri’s energy, knowledge of the game, and positive attitude will be a great fit in our AHA community.”

Coach Mireri attended Concordia University - St. Paul, where he played football and served as the Vice President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In high school, he was a three sport athlete at Fridley High School as he participated in football, basketball, and track & field.

Coach Mireri shares, “I am really excited to be the new head coach at Holy Angels. I’m looking forward to working with the student-athletes and helping them grow as players and as young men. The goal is to build a program where we play disciplined basketball and the players feel like they belong. This will give them an overall positive high school experience and lead to many future victories.”

Jimmy is a 2nd grade teacher in the Wayzata School District. The team opens the 2024-25 season on December 3 when they host Bloomington Jefferson at 7:00 PM.
