Academy of Holy Angels (AHA) comes together as a student body, faculty, and staff in a weekly Convocation assembly. Convocations provide a time and space for AHA to build community, learn from each other, pray together, celebrate good news, and hear from new and relevant speakers.
At the all-school Convocation on Thursday, October 31, Principal Foley honored students for their recent achievements in the National Merit Competition. Approximately 34,000 students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise by taking the 2023 PSAT exam last October, including four AHA seniors. After Convocation, these students, their families, and staff members celebrated with refreshments in the Parlor. Congratulations to the following Stars!
Emily Llapa ‘25 | National Hispanic Award & National First-Generation Recognition Program
(grade school: Blessed Trinity Catholic School)
In Emily’s words:
“These awards are meaningful to me since they serve as a reminder that my dedication to learning and growing paid off and that I'm on the right track. Holy Angels has provided rigorous courses and knowledgeable teachers to learn from. I appreciate the variety of creative classes ranging from ceramics to computer science. Following graduation from AHA, I will pursue a higher education at college and possibly major in finance. I wish to increase my understanding of financial literacy and be able to provide that information back to my community.”
Audrey Erickson ‘25| Semi-Finalist, National Merit Competition Award
(grade school: Nativity of Our Lord School)
In Audrey’s words:
“I feel that this award is a testament to how hard I've worked during my time at AHA. It means a lot to me. My teachers at AHA have taught me how to think critically, which was a great asset for standardized testing. Following my high school graduation, I'm currently planning to go pre-med as a biology major.”
Edward Lang ’25 | Commended, National Merit Competition Award
(grade school: Faithful Shepherd Catholic School)
In Edward’s words:
“This award means I will have a better opportunity to be accepted into one of my top colleges, and it helps me be confident in my abilities for the future. AHA has prepared me tremendously for the PSAT and my future. The amazing personalities and passions the teachers at AHA share with us as students have helped me engage and further my understanding of the material. After I graduate, I plan to attend a college around the Midwest, and I would like to major in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or double major in both.”
Theo Reid ’25 | Commended, National Merit Competition Award
(grade school: Our Lady of Grace Catholic School)
In Theo’s words:
“Being a commended student is very important to me. I was glad to see that I received this rather exclusive honor. Holy Angels has given me the option to take rigorous courses and practice my study skills. Next year, I'm planning to go to a four-year college and study business.”
