Larry Fitzgerald, a member of the Academy of Holy Angels Class of 2001, has officially been named to the NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame! This first-ballot Hall of Fame induction cements Larry’s legacy as one of the greatest players in NFL history, and is the highest sports honor in the history of AHA

From Dr. David Sorkin, AHA President, “Larry Fitzgerald’s Hall of Fame induction is a proud moment for the entire Holy Angels community and a powerful reminder of what determination and perseverance can achieve. He is a true shining star and an inspiration to us all.”

At Holy Angels, Larry distinguished himself as an elite multi-sport athlete competing in football, basketball, and track and field. In football, Larry earned All-State and All-Metro honors, showcasing the talent, discipline, and team-first approach that would define his career.

Larry rose to national prominence at the University of Pittsburgh, where he became one of college football’s most electrifying wide receivers and finished runner-up for the Heisman Trophy in 2003.

In 2004, Larry was selected 3rd overall in the NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals, beginning a remarkable 17-year career. His accomplishments are among the greatest in NFL history: 11 Pro Bowl selections, 1,432 receptions (2nd all-time), 17,492 receiving yards (2nd all-time), and 121 touchdowns. Known for his consistency, leadership, and professionalism, Larry defined excellence both on and off the field. He was honored as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2017.

Beyond football, Larry’s legacy is deeply rooted in service, educational opportunities, and his dedication to children. Through the Larry Fitzgerald Foundation, he has supported youth education, breast cancer awareness, and countless charitable causes across the globe.

Larry has maintained a strong connection to Holy Angels. He regularly returns to AHA in the summer to catch up with teachers and staff. His impact is also felt through the Carol Fitzgerald Scholarship, established in honor of his mother, who passed away from breast cancer in 2003. The scholarship has supported dozens of Holy Angels students.

The Academy of Holy Angels community is excited to celebrate Larry’s remarkable career in September of 2026, when the main athletic field at the StarDome will be named in his honor. The specific date and more details about the naming of Fitzgerald Field will be forthcoming.
