A select number of students in the Academy of Holy Angels STEM Diploma program attended the STEM Goes Red on November 15. The annual event is sponsored by the American Heart Association and was held at West Monroe Partners in downtown Minneapolis.

Students had the opportunity to attend breakout sessions, learn CPR, and connect with professionals in the field through 'speed mentoring’.  One breakout session gave students the opportunity to learn from professionals about the latest technology in cardiac medical devices from Medtronic; the other session was focused on the UX design and the human design approach from West Monroe Partners through their creation of an app for Allina Health patients undergoing heart treatments. The speed mentoring sessions allowed students to connect with professionals in the STEM field across different disciplines in the Twin Cities.

On a separate field trip on November 16, another group of AHA STEM students attended the Inspire Conference on at the University of Minnesota, hosted by their School of Engineering in Medicine. Topics of learning and discussion included cardiac anatomy and physiology, various diseases, and pathways to future careers in cardiology. University of Minnesota science, engineering, and clinical faculty, Medical School students, and professionals from leading medical technology companies led the lectures.

These events, and others, in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area were held this week in celebration of National STEM Week.
