Mathematics Department Philosophy
As mathematics instructors, we strive to provide a learning environment that promotes academic excellence and recognizes each student's needs and capabilities in mathematics. As a result, students will acquire at least basic mathematical skills and improve basic reasoning processes to face challenges and solve problems.
The Academy of Holy Angels offers a comprehensive program in mathematics. Because there is a great need for critical, quantitative thinking and problem solving ability in our society, each AHA student is required to complete nine trimesters of mathematics for graduation. The curriculum is not broken into rigid tracks, but is a flexible plan based on student needs and abilities.
Notice to ninth graders:
Placement in mathematics courses is based on several factors including entrance test scores, department recommendation and input from the student and parent(s)/guardian.
Beginning with the 2011-12 school year, most students will take intermediate Algebra in ninth grade.
Read our Placement for Ninth Graders description for more information about how incoming ninth graders are placed in mathematics courses.
