Concert Band

The Concert Band is a brasswind, woodwind, and percussion ensemble that will perform at regularly scheduled concerts and events during the trimester.  Attendance at scheduled performances is mandatory.   The Concert Band will experience a variety of styles and structures of music through playing, listening, and writing.  Students are also required to participate in a minimum of three Pep Band performances during the Fall and Winter trimesters.

 

Beginning Band

The Beginning Band is an ensemble made up of students with less than two years of  experience on their instruments.  The Beginning Band may perform at regularly scheduled concerts and events during the trimester.  Attendance at scheduled performances is mandatory.  The primary goal of this group is to teach students to read music and gain technical proficiency on their instrument so that they may continue on to the Wind Ensemble.

 

Academy Jazz Band

The Academy Jazz Band is a co-curricular ensemble that performs at a variety of events throughout the school year.The AJB members may be selected by audition in the Fall.  Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances.  The AJB will perform a variety of jazz styles, depending on instrumentation and interest.

Three Holy Angels students were selected to participate in the American School Band Directors Association 9/10 Grade Honors Jazz Band.  Nathaniel Gillen '14 (guitar), Austin Hazekamp '15 (alto sax), and Jeff Grassl '15 (bari sax) travelled to Buffalo, Minnesota, on Saturday, November 12 for a day of rehearsals, workshops, and a performance.  

Pep Band

The Pep Band is a co-curricular ensemble that plays for school events in the Fall and Winter.  In the Fall the Pep Band will play for football and volleyball games.  In the Winter the band will play for boys hockey, girls hockey, boys basketball, and girls basketball games.  A schedule will be determined within the first two weeks of each trimester.  Additional events may be added, such as Pep Fests and State Tournaments.  The Pep Band helps promote school spirit and gives all students an opportunity to play.

 

Student Conductors

Student conductors may be selected each fall based on interest, expertise, and seniority.  Student conductors will be assigned specific songs and will lead rehearsals on occasion.  This is a privilege given by the director, which may be expanded or discontinued at any time.
