Become a Star – Application for Admission

We are currently accepting applications for 2012-13. Are you ready to be a STAR?

Many families are wondering about the important steps to formally apply for admission to AHA and the timeframes to make this happen.

Admissions Timetable still to come:

  • Mid-February, 2012 - application decisions are mailed to applicants who've applied by January 21st.
  • After January 21st, we continue to make admissions decisions in a timely manner as complete applications are received.
  • Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - Ninth Grade Registration, 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.

Here are the steps to submit a formal application for admission:

Whether your son/daughter is an incoming 9th grader or a student applying for grades 10-12, the admissions process is the same. AHA requires each applicant to submit an application, two teacher recommendation forms, a release of information form and a typed essay. Click here for AHA's Criteria for Admissions for incoming ninth graders.

The process is easy; here's how to get started. (Please note that in all cases, there is no application fee.)

First, complete the AHA Application for Admission in one of two ways. You may apply online or choose to print, complete, and send a "hard-copy" application.

The online application will walk you through the entire process. After you submit the application itself, you'll find links to those documents (the release of information and teacher recommendation forms) that need to be submitted separately. You'll also find the instructions there for the Student Response Essay.

The printable application is simply a PDF that you print, complete and either mail or scan and email.

Please remember that the information that you provide is the first tool we have to help with your child’s academic and social transition to AHA.

Second, whichever way you choose to apply, AHA requires your child to complete a typed 400-word essay. Encourage your student to take the time to complete the essay thoughtfully and carefully.

Third, complete the Parent Request for School Information Release and return it to AHA. (You’ll find the form in the Admissions Application.) AHA admissions will send all signed Parent Request for School Information forms directly to your child’s current school to gather all academic and behavioral transcripts and documents.

Fourth, submit two teacher recommendation forms. (You’ll find the recommendation form in the Admissions Application.) One of these recommendations must come from a current math or English teacher, while the other may come from any other current teacher in a core subject such as social studies, science, religion, or world language.

AHA will make conditional admissions decisions based on information provided. We will inform your family of your student’s conditional admissions status in a letter.

Submit any application document in one of three ways: by e-mailing to Meg Angevine, or by faxing to 612-798-2610, or by mailing it to:
